While on vacation recently I found a bit more on the Bruchers. I am waiting on a death certificate. I was given the names of Adam, Christian, and Johannes Brucher who came to New York in 1847, the state paid their way. I was told this was done for people with certain occupations.

Our family has always pronounced the name Brew cher, others, though the name is spelled the same, pronounce it Brooker. I have been told the name means brook, or bridge tender.

Grandma, Grandpa Brucher and Uncle Ray lived in Black Lake. This is off of Black Lake Road, on the curve!

Brucher Family

..Mom and Pop Brucher..

Grandma made the best home fries, with bacon grease, of course. And the corn, you picked it, ran to the kitchen, threw it in a pot (you husked it on the run) and ate it ten minutes later.

Grandma took such pride in her flowers, she had holly hocks on the side that went practically to the second floor roof. There too, was her pretty red rose on a trellis. Across from the driveway were her glads and dahlias. Just beautiful. Uncle Ray planted petunias along the sidewalk, they got to be about a foot across, covered with blooms. Oh!..for the good ole days!

One thing I remember about grandma was that I never heard her complain, she was always ready to go. Grandma would go to Aunt Marge's and Aunt Sells in New Jersey to visit every year. She really looked forward to it.

Brucher

Old Bethel Cemetery. Headstone for Anna Brucher wife of Nicholas. Nicholas was still alive in 1900 and living with John and Elizabeth. I am now pretty sure Harrison W Brucher was John's brother. The two children buried here are probably Harrisons. The headstones say children of Henry and Mary Brucher.

But on the one census paper it looks as if he may have come from Connecticut. So I am not sure how this would fit in.

The following is information given to Marjorie in 1992 by Ann and Ernie Brucher. They repeated the long told story about 3 Brucher brothers coming to the Narrowsburg area from Germany. One of the cousins on the other side of the family told me they were always told the brothers had come from Luxembourg. Though I have been unable to determine who these three were, I am getting closer. It looks as if two were John and Harrison. They are listed as being 28 and 26 years old in the 1870 census. The third may have been William, I have to check this out further.

On the original papers I have it looks more like Burcher than Brucher, recently while in NY I found the census for 1865, it is clearly Brucher, with the same names listed. It looks more like Passmore than Pupmore on that listing too.

The land the Brucher family owned up in Bethel is now owned by the State of New York. Lake Superior is a state park now. Very pretty.

If you are a Brucher or knew any Bruchers, I would appreciate any information...there are so few Bruchers, that all must be related..thanks

I will add all Brucher pages I find here. It may just be a mention of a name, and mean nothing to me, but it may mean something to someone else.

You may be able to use this to find further information. For instance if you note a Brucher name added to the SS listing and go to the newspapers for the area you may find further information in an obituary. For up home you could probably find information in two papers!

For some reason these files**SS files** seem to disappear here and there. When I notice this I put them back on.
