patterns by marjorie 1979-1992
..many of these patterns came about because I saw something..could find no pattern..or..did not exactly like what I saw and changed it..I sold patterns for a while in Crochet World and Annies Crochet..under my name and Knot Just Crochet..regretfully not much of this is done now..the first pattern I sent for was hand written..!!..how things have changed..
..big pumpkin..will it break the record..??..

..currently I am making bereavement squares..12in squares for babies who do not make it..I gave away 20 already...but with the stroke it set me back..the first one took me a month to do..the second a few weeks..then to prove I could do it I made one in a day..I have made 20 more and am working on the pumpkin can covers for a nursing home..they did not work out..maybe next year..also a poncho for my granddaughter..(almost done)..I will put the pattern on here as soon as I get it straight..
..Annies Attic..
..I was not going to include this as you have to pay for these..but they are so cute..

..well at last I have accomplished something..a picture of me in the poncho..I made it for my granddaughter but want to show you an adult can wear it too..now for the fringe..I may make myself one..
**I'm having a problem with this..but will get it straight**..this pattern is for the easy one piece pot holder..I hope the picture is good enough to help you..please someone write and let me know if the pattern is ok..I think now it is..!!..good for scraps..just knot together..

..I did give an afghan away..see you can get something for nothing in this world..!!..
..I tried to sell old magazines both on here and on e-Bay but they have not sold and it was a good deal..so I am surprised..I did sell a few on e-Bay but not enough to continue doing it..I am surprised that of all the web pages I have the crochet page gets the most hits..I tried to improve it before..so I am trying once again..I still do buy a magazine here and there..but to me they have the same old things..same old columnists..I would like something new..the Annies does have a lot of nice stuff..I look and want to make all of it..but just continue with my big squares I give away...

..Good for the Nerves..!!..
..make someone happy for Christmas..last year I made an afghan in sage green, burgandy, cream to give away. Just the one big square..I do find I like to do this while watching TV and I do find it relaxing..I got an idea, I made some of the tiny stockings in the same color, so when I go to give the afghan away I will take a matching Tiny Stocking with candy in it. I am concerned though because my hubby smokes one after another and I know the smell gets in them. Anyone have any good ideas for getting it out. ** I was told to use fabric softener sheets..
Some have asked me about the sizes and how much yarn to use. The kit I bought from Wal-Mart calls it a lapghan. Apprx 39 inches square..24 ounces of yarn..I do remember to finish it I had to go buy an extra skein..but I crochet very loosely..
Wal-Mart had kits for making lap robes. I bought one in burgundy, navy, cream. This will go to a Veterans' hospital in honor of my late cousin. It looks good. The kits were around $10.
Two of the afghans I gave away.

.. I like to make these big squares as I can easily take them with me. I need no pattern. .. I give them away ..

HDC..YO, insert in stitch, YO, pull through stitch, YO, pull through all 3 loops on hook.
If making these for a bunch of people, you can use a few different greens for variety. Add a bow. I do recommend Red-Heart yarns. They do not fray while you are crocheting.

Make some covers in cream and or rose colors, add those little roses and a bow to top end. I used scraps too.
One year I made my daughter up a little basket. I bought fancy ribbon with attached lace and put it around a basket. They had country colored plastic eggs. The blues, pinks, creams I added bows to or sponge painted. The greens, oranges which I did not want I painted with odd paint I had.. My daughter liked this so much she kept it in her china cabinet for a long time.
I was a room-mother at school for many years, and was always making something for my kids or the kids at school. I even wrote a room-mothers ideas booklet. That is how most of this came about.
I recommend Aleen's Glue in the gold bottle..this is the best glue there is..I buy no other and have a bottle of this at all times..I use it for everything..

Leave length to close bottom, close over a large paper silver paper clip. Add yarn, ribbon, embroidery ties, poms etc. Make two and tie tog like real skates. Use on packages, trees, some wore as a lapel pin. I just saw someone with these worn as a lapel pin tied in the back..!.
This was how I had originally made these, I added the green tissue paper later to ones I made. I designed The Gentle Ghost family for school over detergent bottles. They were washed out good and filled with wrapped candy. Also pictured is the Boo-K for Halloween. I entered this in our local fair and won a ribbon. The original pattern came from Crochet World Sept-Oct 1991.
Here is the basic pattern. You can use this to make the pumpkins and ghosts. I do have the patterns for the others here. I can't seem to find them either. My daughter and I added the Witch. I guess that would be pretty easy to do too.

Good for school.. Like I say take life in 5 minute increments, you will be surprised what you can accomplish during commercials!
I have used these in all sorts of ways. I had them in all colors on my tree one year. Decorate in any way you can think of. Some I wove yarn around the outside. Add a bow. I made a chain and weaved it around the top, tie in bow. I found one with the initial "A" on it, said what on earth is this? I remembered I had made it for the Cabbage Patch Doll my daughter made. Though we could never remember the doll's name! She still has it and has been married 14 years now!
Do not limit these to red, white, green. Try pastel colors or cream and rose, add little roses, pearls, lace. White with red roses, ribbons. You can make a crochet chain for your tree to match, glue roses to chain, a good project for a child to help.
My granddaughter has always liked yarn. She wants to learn to crochet. She cried and cried one time because she wanted the STRAW, I had no idea what she meant. She wanted to play with the yarn! At age eight she still does. They all want yarn for some reason. I made a long chain for the girls one time. The little one at age three has her own ball of yarn. One day though right out of Home Alone she got some other yarn and in a matter of seconds had it all over the place through the front room, dining room, kitchen. We really laughed.
My grandson at age eight made a large ball and I told him I thought one time The Guiness Book of World Records had a record for the largest. I did get the book. I have three grandchildren the same age for about six months!
These are really simple to make. Good for the kiddies..
I used the Planter's Peanut cans, ***for some time these were impossible to find..but now they have the special nut blends in these cans..**the small 6.5oz ones. I just found a small Pringles can which would work too.
Orange 4-ply yarn, g-hook.
TO START, make a chain to fit can from top to bottom.
Row 1--1--sc in second chain from hook and each chain across, ch1.
Row 2--end..Working in the back loop only, this will form ridges in your work, 1sc in each sc, ch 1 at ends.
Work in this pattern until piece is long enough to tightly fit around can. Sew short ends together, then work scs around one end for the bottom, then one row of sc, decrease, sc, decrease around. Insert can and sc, decrease to close bottom. This should fit tightly. Add felt face features.
I used green tissue paper between can and cover, having the corners stand up over the top of the can.
Get started early. Now with a little imagination you could make ghosts and others. You can make two about 2 1/2 inches wide, sew tog, add faces. Use the orange and white and make up a little tic tac toe game. ***Be sure to check cans and be sure there are no sharp edges inside**if there are I use a nail file to smooth off. Fill these with candy for the kiddies.
Here are some of the potholders, the popular Doll Faces. A few of the scrap ones. I had made the scrap one two different ways. The shape was just a little different.
Get ready for the upcoming holidays..quick and easy..Watermelon Pot-Holder
4—ply-G-hook
To START—CH 4, join
RND1-6sc in ring, join. **mark 1st sc in each round, join in that stitch**
RND2-2sc in each sc, join. (12)
RND3-2sc in 1st sc *sc in next sc, 2sc in next sc*repeat*around, sc in last sc, join.
RND4-2sc in 1st sc *sc in each of next 2sc, 2sc in next sc*repeat*around, sc in last 2sc, join. (24)
RND5-2sc in 1st sc *sc in each of next 3sc, 2sc in next sc*repeat*around, sc in last 3sc, join. (30)
Repeat this pattern until piece measures appr 7 inches across**you will add one more sc between 2sc groups in each round**the next would be 4sc, then 5sc. Make 1 round white** 1 green.
Add black seeds, I do mine with just a straight stitch. Perhaps 10 seeds. Fold in two, I sc mine together adding a loop at one end.
This is a good pattern for summer church sales. Quick and easy.
I use both a melon color and red. Vary the greens.
This would be great to have for a picnic prize.
**
I will continually be adding patterns to this page..thanks..
..send for the catalogues listed on the link below, it has been a long time since I have sent for any..
Please do not sell these patterns as your own or add them to some collection unless you ask first..thanks..most are from items I saw with no pattern, or a pattern I did not like and changed...
**
...These were very popular a while back..
You can really use just about any yarns and size hooks, I made mine with 4-ply and a G-hook the size will differ..and if you really do not like the outcome..you've lost little time or material..
To start..CH 3, join.. CH 3
Rnd 1-Make 11 dc in center of ring, join with slip stitch in top of 1st ch 3.
Rnd 2-CH 3, make 3dc in same space. (head) Ch12 join to head between first and second dc with slip stitch (ear). Ch 12, join with sl st in same space as 1st loop. (second ear)
Attach tail and moveable eye. Add a pin to back.
Be sure to glue this on good if for a smaller child. I do recommend Aleen's Glue in the gold bottle, it will hold good. There are sew on eyes, I have never tried them with these. For a group make in all colors, make a few extra. Play a game spelling Happy Easter etc, call out a letter and if a child has that letter they go pick a bunny, have the extra so last children have a choice too.
**
Rug yarn, J hook, magnetic tape, small eye, pom-pom..
CH 3, join tightly into ring.
Rnd 1-CH 3, 11 dc in ring, join with sl st to top of ch3. (12 dc with ch 3 counting as one dc)
Rnd 2-CH 3, 3 dc in next space between dc’s, ch 9, sl st in top of dc just made, ch 10, sl st in same sp, work 1sl st in side of same dc, sl st in top of next dc of circle first made, 2sc in each of next 7 spaces between dc’s, end…add pom-pom tail, eyes…make in assorted Easter colors..attach to baskets too..
**
As it seems yarns, patterns are getting harder to find you may want to plan ahead and order from one of the catalogues a few times a year.
**
Do you have unfinished afghans lying around? I had a number of them, I would buy yarn, then never make what I had intended. I said I will make simple grannys, one big square, give them away!
One was in a pretty thicker rose colored yarn. Another a baby pink and white. I took the rose colored one to a nursing home, the woman in charge says yes, this man is always cold, he would love it, I mentioned the color, she says he will not care. The pink one I took to Sears along with a picture of my granddaughter sitting on it when she had a picture done at Sears. That was the only time it was ever used. They were so happy at Sears! Someone was eyeing it already. I did this on Make a Difference Day which is in October.
So, start now, see what you have. I did have a green one too, but the baby seems to like it and we are going to try taking her Na Na away and giving her that!
I did have one other I started, my friend saw it and now she wants it. So, I am going to finish it and give it to her. All it needs is fringe.
**
Another I have is beautiful but it got torn while moving. Guess who gets it? My daughter's dog. I am going to cover a pillow with it, I have decided even I can not really salvage it except for that! **The dog does not get it! My daughter was afraid because of the pattern she would get her claws caught in it too much So we shall try something else..!!..
During the hurricane last summer we had to take my sister in laws dogs over to our duplex, I just happened to have an old afghan of granny squares, some had come apart. I tied up the lose ends and sent it for the dogs. A little comfort for them.
