Kara went to her first day of pre-school yesterday. She will start kindergarten on August 10. Seems impossible. I have taken care of her during the day since March, I sure will miss her.
Kara is now in school. After she had only gone for 6--1/2 days she says to me..now do not tell my mommy, daddy, and probably even named the dog...I am going to be sick tomorrow..I said you are..she says yes..so I do not have to go to school!! She swore me to secrecy. Sure enough she tried it on her daddy, she was sick all over, she thought her head hurt and her tummy. He told her that was all right, she was not going to school anyway! For a child who has never been sick at all this is not easy to get away with.
Then she comes home after one day of full time school day and says..I can't wait until I start college...I say where are you going to go to college? Hollywood..do they have a college? I say what are you going to be? She does not know, but, when she gets out of college she is going to stay home and do nothing. Then I had asked her about going on vacation, she had said then she wanted to go to Hollywood. I said well, next year maybe you can as daughter Wendy was living nearby, I told her I had just been to Hollywood, showed her the pictures of me there.
Things change so fast, now Wendy will only be in CA for a few more weeks!

Little Miss Kara was born on Elvis's birthday, January 8 1993. That was the day the postage stamp came out. At the time I was away working at UNC-Charlotte registration. They let my daughter know Kara had been born, Wendy then came in where I was working with a balloon, a sign saying first time grandmother. They taped it to my computer for everyone to see. In a few days I had a picture to add to this. There it stayed for the next few weeks till I was through.
I have put up stamps, magnets, postcards with the stamp design for Kara, a keychain too. Next year Kara will be 5 years old, I hope to have her an Elvis party then. I bought cups, plates, napkins, invitations all with Elvis on them. Kara is already getting excited. I have told her we are going to have her an Elvis party this year. She wants Elvis presents, a cake with Elvis! I need to find an Elvis, start paying him $1 a week, so there will be one at her party!!
Kara does know who Elvis is, she has known since she was a baby!! Every year I buy her something new with Elvis on it. I have a set of the three dolls that came out for Kara too. Everything I have with Elvis goes to Kara.
We joke because both grandmothers are Elvis fans. We say it is no wonder we did not force the parents to give her the middle name of Elvis!
I have bought Elvis books, one is on my stand, last week-end Kara got it, sat there leafing through all the pages, real serious, studying each one!
Kara has long, curly blond hair almost down to her waist. If you say she has dirty blond hair, she emphatically says no! it is blonde! She looks just like my daughter to me, someone last week said she looked like ME! We just took her to get her picture done, it came out pretty good.
When I went out to the mall for my first try at a movie casting, Kara and I were pulled out of the line, taken to the front. They said she looked like the Gerber Baby. At the time she did. I was to be in the movie, they said to bring her, but, they could not pay her, however the movie plans were changed, when they re-scheduled it I was out of town working. I've never tried it again.
Kara wants a pink bed in a pink room in a pink house! Kara use to love Barney, now, she seems to go more for Barbie.
I have a baby book that I bought and have written about Kara in it since she was born. There are two picture albums I have made for her. Luckily we had a video camera for a few months, so we got some videos of her. I sure am glad we did that.
This is how Kara has written her name since she was about 1 year old. Then she learned to backspace and erase it all. Problem is, this is what she considers writing her name!! I wonder if she will ever learn to print it.

Recently while at the pool, someone asked Kara if she could take a piece of paper and a pencil, write her name, her dad said she says NO!..I use the computer. They were telling me about this, I said, YES!..that is right.
I called her the "puter" baby. She would have us draw her Barney over and over, we made up holiday pictures with Barney. I can not draw, but, if it was purple and green it was Barney and Baby Bop. My husband is an artist, he could draw her a pretty good Barney. He would draw a picture, ask her if she was ready. She'd squat down in front of the printer and get so excited..!!..
We have a picture of her sitting at the computer, hair piled on top of her head, only a diaper on, mouse in hand, it is cute.
Now, I just wonder how she is going to convince people she has a web page. If someone mentions web pages..she will say...I have one of them...We love ya sweetie..mom..dad..daddy..
...how can it be??..in less than a month Kara will be 5..Impossible....Kara just got her first hair-cut, Dad (grandpa) took her this past week-end.
Kara had her Elvis party yesterday, Elvis n Barbie, we could not find an Elvis for the cake, usually I improvise, but, Dad said she had seen a Barbie, so, that was on her cake.
Those attending were Daddy, Kim, Melissa. Devin, brother Bobby. Grandma and Grandpa (Mom and Dad). Aunt Linda and Mark Meeks. Great Grandma and Granddaddy Georgia and Roy Smith. Aunt Wendy and Uncle Jesse in from California. Rachel Poleo, Jessica Hord, Lence Cook. And, of course the birthday girl...Kara Alayne Ward...Happy 5th Birthday Sweetie..all of the children attended the wedding of Donna and Ben Cook on Saturday. Wendy and Jesse took all of the kids. Kara called her daddy on Sunday to tell him she had learned to do the Macarana and The Electric Slime..
