..Anniversary..

Over the years I have been working with genealogy I have found some interesting information. Yes, my great grandfather was a lawyer in New York City! I found a book written about my husband's great, great grandfather, Richard Sidden. A movie was even made and re-made based on this book.

Picture of Richard Sidden my husband's gr, gr grandfather.

Sidden

I found some of my husband's Spark's line were with the Boone's. They even moved with them. (See Sparks Association Newsletter No 3 September 1953..Daniel Boone and the Sparks Family.. 13--16). I wanted to try to see if there was a direct link on our line, regretfullly the person who could have told me passed away.

I realize most will not be as lucky as I have been and find not just one, but three books on their family lines. One a novel!

My mother in law had told me about some book written about family members. She told me they were holding one for her. Sure enough when she came back from vacation she had a book. It is called Log Cabin Families of Stone Mountain North Carolina. This had a lot of information, pictures too.

A novel (Heart of The Blue Ridge) was written about Richard Sidden, Plutinia Cox. I was able to obtain a copy of it through inter library loan. I then copied pages from the book for my family history.

Another book was written about my hubby's Spicer line. I had written about this and was told it was no longer available. Now I have been contacted and told the book has been printed again. I hope to now obtain a copy. The information was put online too.

..GENMAIL..

For Christmas my daughter took an old black and white picture of a deceased family member that was torn on top and yellowed. She used one of the Kodak Picture Maker machines they now have in many stores. She says she has learned to do this herself. She made copies taking the bad part out and put them in beautiful pewter frames for all of the children, this really came out great. Everyone was impressed with the results. She says you can restore color as she just did with another photo and I have one of where she was Christened that stuck to the frame. She says she can fix that too. My daughter says if you watch they have specials all the time.

You can do all sorts of neat things, take red eyes out, crop, add borders, frames. The price is around $7-8. For this you can get all sorts of varieties done. They had a 2 for 1 special. I got 2-5x7s, 2-3x5s, 4-wallets all for $7.44 with tax. They came out really great, better than the originals! I got two different pictures done for this price. One was of this picture of my children, my aunt had the 5x7, my hubby took the 8x10 to make a painting. I only had wallet sizes. So, I finally got my 5x7 after 26 years!!!

This is done on heavy paper.

..BRUCHER.. family re-union summer 2002..Bethel New York..

Attending were Raymond, Beulah and Marion, three of the seven Brucher children. Gertrude did not attend.

I suggest the following 2 books for everyone. They are not that expensive. I have ordered both Emily Croome books from Books-A-Million. You can get a 10% discount card. Remember, if you do not see them on the shelf, ask, they ordered mine for me.

Unpuzzling Your Past...by Emily Croome..$14.99

The Genealogist's Companion & Sourcebook...by Emily Croome...$16.99

Both of the Emily Croomes books are very good. I found that I would check them out over and over again. So, I finally decided to go ahead and buy them. At times I was unable to get them at the library. Names of other books are listed, newsletter names. The Sparks name is shown, though I did not notice it at first. Census days are given, historical society addresses, all sorts of things.

Wal-Mart sells both of the Emily Croome books and at a good price too.

..MORE BOOKS..

Managing a Genealogical Project...by William Dollarhide

This book has some good information in it and has the forms that I like best. You can copy them for your own use. This is a good place to start. You may be able to order this from Books-A-Million.

Directory of Family Associations.....by Elizabeth Petty Bentley

Listings and addresses for Newsletters. Check here for your family names. See if they may have a family newsletter. There are other family association books. Most libraries with a genealogy section will have at least one available. This is an especially good way to start if you have an uncommon surname. Regretfully, the Brucher name, one of my names, was not listed!

The Spark's name was listed, I sent them basic information, they returned a one page line of ancestors, told me which newsletters applied to them.

In Search of Your----Ancestors...by Angus Baxter

You fill in the blank!! I got the one for the German ancestors. There is a lot of information in these books. Many countries are available. Immigration patterns are discussed.

...Phone books...etc

There are CDs available with phone numbers listed on them. I recently bought one for $15. This is for the eastern United States only, but I have seen few recently, so I grabbed it. This can be a great help in finding people with certain names, especially unusual names.

Some time ago someone had sent me a listing for Brucher names. I have no idea where they came from. Phone numbers and addresses were shown. There were 60 Brucher names. Of course that is only counting one name per household and there would certainly be more.

I called a few and sent snail mail to 60+. I enclosed a form to fill out. Surprisingly I did get some back. One came to me over a year later! Though we still have not figured it all out I do have a bit of information that should make it easier for anyone else to give it a try. I think a lot of the Bruchers must have changed their names.

..Videos..

Make a family history video...I started on this a few years back...though my mother in law announced she was not related to any of these people...we were a bit crazy!! Someone had given her a video of her late mother, I copied that. Make several copies, so, if something happens to the original, I recently had copies of a video made, they cost $6 each. A great present.

You might want to video local interests your family has liked, houses, pictures..you may be able to locate local information on city, county pages..most have beautiful pictures you can tape..

Keep a look for Eckerds Photo mouse pads. We bought one 6 (2002) years ago. My daughter is still using it! Even after the baby played with it! It is a picture of me in Pat Nixon's rose garden.

Avon did have an Our Family Tree book for $9.99 in the campaign 15 book on page 112...you may want to see if it is still available..grab it while you can.

..Genealogy Jokes....jokes..

I just went to a site that mentioned free sites are getting harder to find. Why? Ads do not pay for the sites, so some have started to charge fees. So you may want to do some looking around ..!!..

At Wal-Mart I bought this big album. It says The Big Book. It was $16. I have heard of some you can order. I had never seen any though.

Could Taz be researching his genealogy too..?!!?..

At the time when all American pioneers were heading west I think mine were heading East.

Something I saw...If only I could live to see my completed GENEALOGY!!

This is the new site we hear so much about. I had looked before but never went back. I found 61 Brucher names listed.

..Birthstone Dolls..

These are the nicest dolls. I got one for everyone in the family. I had to pay no postage and ordered them all at one time, so it was right over $100 for mine. They are small but beautiful..

..DOLLS..

You can crochet dolls too. Both books are available from American School of Needlework. The Monday's Child one is number 1117 .. the Birthstone one is 1118. These are very nice too. I am going to crochet the ones for me and have the other dolls too. I figure this will look nice on my stand.

I have finally gotten one of the pages I had hoped to have done by Feb 2 at least presentable enough to link again..
