...A Few stories...

The Michael Jordan Shirt...Michael is from Wilmington. We watched as he became more and more famous. While Michael was still in college he was becoming pretty popular. He came home to visit.. While here he visited Gregory School, where my son Shawn attended. I went, bought a Carolina Blue T-shirt saying Jordan Shoots the Hoop on it, then I bought a permanent marker pen. Sure enough Michael signed the shirt.

Shawn wore that shirt and wore it. He cried when I told him we had to wash it! Everyone says .. you let him wear the shirt! I reply, we did not realize Michael was going to be that good! Good...yes!

The shirt was worn a lot. I saved the shirt, I would hang it up wherever we were living, by the time we were in Charlotte, Michael was a super star, so, I hung the shirt way up over the staircase, so no one could take it. We moved though, the shirt got lost. I was sure I would find it somewhere, but I never did. I am going to write Michael. Perhaps, he would replace it, I am sure he remembers signing the shirt for this little kid. I could kick myself...Peace

The Train Trip..and The Texas Playgirls..In the fall of 1996 I took Amtrak to sunny California to visit with daughter Wendy. This was really fun.

You learn fast, if you can keep two seats to yourself, at night you can stretch out and sleep away. The trip back started on a beautiful train, you hardly knew you were moving. Then all at once they wake us up, tell us we are going to have to switch trains. After getting on the new train, someone comes along, asks if she can sit with me, I say ok, that is fine. She tells me this is her first trip, she is rather apprehensive about it. I tell her it is fine once you get use to it.
She starts exercising her hand, I ask has she broken it, my mother had to exercise hers when it was broken, she says no she plays an instrument, they are having a big re-union.

Then she mentions that she just picked up a copy of a magazine, that she is in it. OK!! She gets out a copy of Texas Monthly, shows me a picture of herself from many, many years ago, but you can tell, it is her.

Then she starts telling me this story. Bob Wills use to be her boss, I do not recognize the name, she tells me they recently had his biography on TNN, (I later saw it) he wrote San Antonio Rose, I do remember that song. She was one of 6 women who over the years were with his band The Texas Playboys, they are The Texas Playgirls.

Later she brings out a CD they have just made.

In actual life her husband was the one who lost (but really won..however you look at it) the coin toss in the movie LaBomba about Buddy Holly. Richie Valens won the toss, went on the airplane, but, lost his life. Her husband got to the hotel, asked for Buddy Holly, they told him he had died. He says, no, I mean the singer Buddy Holly. He was told..yes..he died.

I really enjoyed my trip and all the stories we were told, we really had a great time. Louise had lived next to George Strait at one time.

When I came home, I went to the library, got the book about Bob Wills..San Antonio Rose..The Life and Music of BOB WILLS by Charles R Townsend.. There is a picture of Louise in the book on page 270-3. Louise told me that the Texas swing is very popular still, every week-end there are big dances all over. In California jazz is popular, I went to the Southern California New Orleans Style Jazz Festival, they have non-stop music with 3-4 bands going all at the same time for the entire week-end. They dress up, march around the floor.

On the trip back from California this year I met a kick-box champ and an intern who wrote for Party of Five.

Kara and I were to be in a made for tv movie too. It was the first time I had gone for a casting call. They pulled us out of line, commented that she looked like The Gerber Baby, told me to bring her for the taping. However, things changed, I was out of town. Kara and I missed out, we shall have to try again.

The site has been improved more now. It is very pretty.

Were you there? I was not, but, this happened where I grew up. In Bethel, New York. My brother, Ron Smith was there, my sister Donna and Cousin Judy walked way up there, which must be 2-3 miles from the house, it was starting to get dark, they got scared and went back home.

Up at Aunt Beulah's house, they were unable to get out. There are two houses on her property, the hippies took over the one, they were camped out all over her yard, her kids could not get out to go back home. Uncle Ralph had worked for Max Yasgur for a long, long time. When we go home, we generally make a trip up there. Seems there is always someone around. There is always talk of Woodstock, I have pictures of the site which I send to DJs, etc. My brother still has his tickets. I made a few videos from the 25 year one, I think I will sell them. This is all from the shows, etc, Tony Randall coming out all covered with dirt on a show. Everything I saw that mentioned Woodstock, I recorded. It is interesting. Just wish I'd sent for some of the things they had. I have a pin and keychain ..but..they say Woodstock..20 years later..
